First Look: Alan Tudyk As Robin In ‘Powerless’

Powerless

Entertainment Weekly has released two first look images of Alan Tudyk’s Van Wayne dressed as Robin in next week’s episode of Powerless. You can check out both images below.

The episode, entitled “Emily Dates a Henchman,” shows Van, Teddy (Danny Pudi) and Ron (Ron Funches) trying to track down Batman after they find one of his batarangs. This, of course, leads to Van attempting to live out his fantasy of being Robin. If only Van knew that the Dark Knight, aka his cousin Bruce Wayne, was just a phone call away (though Bruce probably wouldn’t take the call).

Meanwhile, as the title alludes, the episode also features Emily (Vanessa Hudgens) trying to get back out into the dating world. She soon discovers that her date, played by Robert Buckley from iZombie, is one of the Riddler’s henchmen.

A lovable imbecile dressed as Robin and an appearance from one of the Riddler’s goons is probably the closest thing to these iconic DC characters that we’ll ever be getting in this series (unless perhaps the show becomes a huge hit, which doesn’t seem very likely at the moment). Warner Bros. has many restrictions on its DC TV shows, preventing them from using characters that are established in the DCEU, with the occasional exception, like The Flash. With the Robin suit seen in the Batcave in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, it’s highly unlikely that we’ll ever see the actual boy wonder show up on Powerless. The Riddler hasn’t appeared and isn’t even planned (that we know of) for the DCEU, but I still doubt we’ll be seeing him appear on this show either.

“Emily Dates a Henchman” will air next Thursday. As the fourth episode of the show, I’m hoping it will be the one where the show finally finds its footing. I like the show well enough, but there’s definitely room for improvement.

Powerless airs Thursdays at 8:30pm ET/PT on NBC. Be sure to check back every Thursday night for our episode reviews and come back later tonight for our review of this week’s episode, “Sinking Day.”
