Plot details on the project remain under wraps, however, the angst-driven adventures of the teen mutants is set to take the X-Men franchise into the horror genre as it draws influence from New Mutants No. 18. The film is also rumored to feature the mutants battling against the dangers of their own powers as they try to save themselves.

Production on the film is set to begin this month in Boston. Josh Boone (The Fault in Our Stars) has co-written the script with his writing partner Knate Gwaltney and will also direct the film. Simon Kinberg and Karen Rosenfelt will produce.

The film also stars Anya Taylor-Joy as Magik, Blu Hunt as Moonstar and Alice Braga as Cecilia Reyes. New Mutants is currently slated to hit theaters on April 13, 2018.
