‘Stranger Things’ Star Charlie Heaton In Talks To Join ‘New Mutants’ As Cannonball

New MutantsA Stranger Things actor might be joining FOX’s X-Men Cinematic Universe as Charlie Heaton is currently in talks to possibly join the New Mutants film. Should he sign on, Heaton would be playing the Marvel character Sam Guthrie a.k.a. Cannonball.

The film currently stars Anya Taylor-Joy (The Witch and Split) and Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones) as Magik and Wolfsbane respectively. Cannonball is described as a “a teen who propels himself into the air and is invulnerable while doing so.” The film is set to start production in Boston sometime in July.

New Mutants is just one of several X-Men films that will be coming out in 2018. The year will open with the new spin-off, directed by Josh Boone, followed by Deadpool 2 starring Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson and Josh Brolin as Cable, which will be out on June 1, 2018. Then we have X-Men: Dark Phoenix which will arrive at the end of 2018 on November 2.

Josh Boone’s The New Mutants, starring Anya Taylor-Joy as Magik and Maisie Williams as Wolfsbane, arrive in theaters on April 13, 2018.

8 X-Men Characters Who Deserve Their Own Movie

Previous1 of 9

X-MenSo it’s probably safe to assume everyone here has seen Logan? Well, based on how well it did in the box-office I think Fox is taking notes. Now that they have both Deadpool and Logan under their belts, I’m sure they will be bringing more X-Men characters to the big-screen as soon as possible.

There are so many great X-Men arcs to choose from, but I think focusing on personal stories and fewer characters is a way to ensure the movie connects with an audience. Mutants were originally composed as a metaphor for the Civil Rights movement, and that issue is still very much so alive in our society. I’m not saying every movie needs to be political, but they all have the potential to be about so much more than destruction and boss battles. Fox focus on smaller, personal stories that show mutants in a different light. Sure they can kick ass, but let’s make sure they always feel like real people, as Logan did.

Did I miss your favorite character? Well, let me know in the comment section why they should be included! So hit Next to see the eight mutants I think Fox should bring to the big-screen next!

Nah, he’s not quite right for Sam. Sam is an all around “salt of the earth” type guy. He was good in Stranger Things, just not right for Sam.
