Cliff Martinez Will Score ‘Wolverine 3’

Production is currently underway for Wolverine 3, which is being directed by James Mangold and is set to be Hugh Jackman’s last turn as the titular character after nearly 17 years of portraying the mutant. It seems like they are pulling out all the stops they possibly can, with this film aiming towards an R-Rating as well as having a different tone being described as a western taking place in the future.

It is really important than to have a great score to accompany this story that seems to be borrowing somewhat from Mark Millar’s Old Man Logan. And it looks like a terrific composer has been enlisted by Mangold to do the job. According to Film Music Reporter, Cliff Martinez is set to compose the music for the upcoming film – marking this his debut in the realms of superhero movies.

Many may recognize Martinez’s talents from his scores for films such as Nicholas Winding Refn’s Drive and Steven Sodebergh’s Traffic and Contagion. He recently did the scores for The Neon Demon and the upcoming Todd Phillips comedy, War Dogs. With his line of work, I think fans of Wolverine will be in for a treat from a composer who showcases a much different vibe than your usual film composer in the business today.

Directed by James Mangold and starring Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Boyd Holbrook, Richard E. Grant, Stephen Merchant, Eriq La Salle & Elise Neal the upcoming Wolverine sequel hits theaters May 3, 2017.
