The Defenders will unite the heroes of the Netflix shows in the battle to save New York, though a number of fans are still disappointed that characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe films have yet to fight side-by-side with the street-level heroes. In an interview with SensaCine, actor Charlie Cox revealed which MCU character he would like to see appear in the Netflix corner of the MCU.

Pointing to the romantic history between Natasha Romanoff and Daredevil in the comics, Cox revealed that he would like to see Black Widow appear in the Netflix shows:

“Matt Murdock in the Marvel Universe dated Black Widow, so I think we should get Scarlett Johansson on board.”

Cox’s co-star, Iron First star Finn Jones, expressed his interest in seeing Mark Ruffalo appear as the Hulk.

Unfortunately, a guest appearance by Scarlett Johansson seems unlikely, especially considering the D23 footage from Avengers: Infinity indicates that Black Widow has been on the run since her actions in Captain America: Civil War.

“Marvel’s The Defenders” follows Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist. A quartet of singular heroes with one common goal – to save New York City. This is the story of four solitary figures, burdened with their own personal challenges, who realize they just might be stronger when teamed together.

Marvel’s The Defenders stars Charlie Cox, Krysten Ritter, Mike Colter, Finn Jones, Deborah Ann Woll, Simone Missick, Elden Henson, Carrie-Anne Moss, Eka Darville, Rachel Taylor, Rosario Dawson, Scott Glenn, Jessica Henwick, Elodie Yung and Sigourney Weaver.

Marvel’s The Defenders is set to debut on Netflix on August 18, 2017.
