When The Defenders finally unite in the upcoming Netflix series, they will be accompanied by a familiar ally. Rosario Dawson, who has appeared as Claire Temple in all four Marvel Netflix shows, will be reprising her role in the upcoming team-up series. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, series star Mike Colter, who will return as Luke Cage, discussed Claire Temple’s relationship with the team and showrunner Marco Ramirez offered behind-the-scenes details on Rosario Dawson’s approach the playing the character.

Colter discussed the continuing romantic relationship between Luke and Claire.

“Anytime you’re smitten with someone and hanging out with them for the first time, there’s a spark. That newness makes everybody excited.”

Colter also commented on the history between Claire and Matt Murdock/Daredevil.

“Daredevil didn’t have a romance [with Claire], we didn’t see that. I didn’t see it. My story is that she spent the night and then she slept in another bedroom. So I’m sorry, I need some kind of evidence that Claire and Daredevil did it. This is just hearsay. She’s my girl.”

Jessica Jones star Krysten Ritter addressed the history between Luke Cage and Jessica, but would not share any details.

“I don’t think I can tell you.”

Ritter did confirm that Jessica Jones and Claire Temple will meet, although an in-depth conservation between the two may have to wait, EW reports:

[…] the pair, aside from crossing paths in their first scene with all of the Defenders together, haven’t had a conversation yet.

The Defenders showrunner Marco Ramirez  shared some details on how much input Rosario Dawson gives in the portrayal of the character.

“She would come up and say, ‘This is how Claire would sound,’ and I’d be like, ‘You know what? You know her very well, so absolutely, that’s how she sounds,’. Rosario has been in 10 to 15 episodes of this. There could be a full combined season of Claire, the show.”

Colter’s comments are just the latest in a series of interviews given by the cast of The Defenders. Charlie Cox has offered details on the group dynamics between the reluctant team and Mike Colter has teased the much anticipated interaction between Luke Cage and Iron Fist.

“Marvel’s The Defenders” follows Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist. A quartet of singular heroes with one common goal – to save New York City. This is the story of four solitary figures, burdened with their own personal challenges, who realize they just might be stronger when teamed together.

Marvel’s The Defenders stars Charlie Cox, Krysten Ritter, Mike Colter, Finn Jones, Deborah Ann Woll, Simone Missick, Elden Henson, Carrie-Anne Moss, Eka Darville, Rachel Taylor, Rosario Dawson, Scott Glenn, Jessica Henwick, Elodie Yung and Sigourney Weaver as a mysterious villain named Alexandra.

Marvel’s The Defenders is set to debut on Netflix in 2017.
