Disney CEO Bob Iger Says ‘Rogue One’ Is An “Experiment, Of Sorts”

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story has been surrounded in controversy since early reports indicated that re-shoots had begun in order to change the tone and move in a slightly different direction. The trailers have expressed the “war movie” tone that Gareth Edwards has said he strived for but anticipation and worry continue to build before Rogue One hits theaters on December 16th.

Disney CEO Bob Iger spoke with The Hollywood Reporter and discussed the upcoming Rogue One. He called the project, “an experiment, of sorts.” This is the first standalone Star Wars film to not focus on the Skywalker story.

“This is a moment in time, and we’ve loved what we’ve seen.”

Rogue One follows a group of Rebel fighters who come together in order to steal the plans for the Death Star. The film stars Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Riz Ahmed, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Jiang Wen, Forest Whitaker, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, and Jonathan Aris.

Following the foundation of the Galactic Empire, a wayward band of Rebel fighters come together to carry out a desperate mission: to steal the plans for the Death Star before it can be used to enforce the Emperor’s rule.

Rogue One arrives in theaters on December 16th.
