While previously leaked set pictures have provided a look at Benedict Cumberbatch portraying Stephen Strange while shooting in Nepal, nothing so far has revealed the look he will don when finally taking up the mantle of Sorcerer Supreme. Now, thanks to the new issue of Entertainment Weekly, fans are no longer kept in suspense.
Not only does the picture showcase the general hairstyle and classic costume of the superhero Doctor Strange, but fans are also given an idea regarding the visual effects of the spell-casting in the film. It appears as if Marvel is sticking rather close to the hero’s comic book counterpart with this one, right down to the general aesthetic of his magic.
According to Cumberbatch, learning to play a magician has been one of the more difficult aspects of portraying the character.
“I’m still in the infancy of learning all that. It was like, okay, I’ve got to keep throwing these poses, these spells, these rune-casting things, everything he does physically. I’m thinking, there’s going to be a huge amount of speculation and intrigue over the positioning of that finger as opposed to it being there, or there. And I’m still working on that. We haven’t played any of those scenes yet. I felt really self-conscious. But, then, by the end, it was great. It’s like anything, you just have to experiment.”
If this quote is any indication, Doctor Strange is going to be participating in quite a bit of action when his film reaches theaters on November 4, 2016. Hopefully, it won’t be too long before fans are given a fuller look at his costume and abilities. In the meantime, the following concept art should help to whet some appetites.
