The Fate of the Furious proved that audiences around the world are still hungry for more adventures with Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) and his family. One of the film’s most exciting dynamics was that between Luke Hobbs (Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson) and Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham).
The prison scene has been widely praised as the most exciting sequence in the entire film. Much of that is credit to both Johnson and Statham as well as the film’s director F. Gary Gray. Not only was the action in that scene electric and exciting, but the amount of energy we see from both Hobbs and Shaw teased audiences with this exciting new dynamic duo that will certainly factor into more adventures.
A standalone movie with Hobbs and Shaw at the center of the film is currently in development. Gray recently voiced some interest in seeing both these characters together in their own spinoff on the commentary track for The Fate of the Furious:
You could just feel the energy between the two. I think something’s going to come out of it, you know? We’ll see, but I definitely wouldn’t mind seeing a two-hander between Shaw and Hobbs.
Whether or not a spinoff film featuring The Rock and Statham ever comes into fruition, let’s hope that we at least see more material between these two characters in Fast & Furious 9. Are you excited at what possibilities there are for a Hobbs & Shaw spinoff movie? Sound off in the comments below.
Here is the synopsis for The Fate of the Furious:
