First ‘Luke Cage’ Trailer Released

During the Luke Cage panel at SDCC 2016, Marvel and Netflix have dropped the first trailer for the show. This trailer marks the first time fans have seen footage from the upcoming Netflix show since the preview attached to the end of Daredevil Season 2.

The trailer gives plenty to be excited about, our first look at the villain Cottonmouth, a greater sense of this show’s tone, and tons of brand new footage not seen in the teaser at the end of Daredevil. According to Luke Cage‘s show runner Cheo Hodari Coker, this season will be about Luke figuring out what it means to be a hero and will pick up with Luke hiding in plain sight in Harlem. Last time we saw Luke Cage was in Jessica Jones as Jones’ romantic interest, but the two did not leave on the best of terms. It is unclear as to whether Jessica Jones will make an appearance in Luke Cage, or whether Iron Fist will receive his introduction but the show looks to be an incredible time.

As seen in the trailer, music plays a big role in the show. “It’s not a musical, but has a musicality,” says Loeb. “It’s a wu-tangification of the Marvel Universe, It has a grip and is elegant at the same time. Every single episode is named after a gang star song. I wanted the 13 episodes to feel like an album. Like when Prince put an album, you would shut things out and listen to the whole thing. But now, with TV, you binge watch. This show is made to binge. The music helps, but it is all about the pace. Man, it’s great,” says Coker.

Luke Cage stars Mike Colter, Mahershala Ali, Alfre Woodard, Simone Missick, Theo Rossi, Frank Whaley, and Sonia Braga. The series is was developed by showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker.
