‘The Flash’ Candidate Robert Zemeckis Is Geoff Johns’ Favorite Director

Justice League Ezra Miller The Flash Barry Allen

Geoff Johns made an appearance at San Diego Comic-Con 2017 on Thursday for a special panel. With heavy anticipation underway for the Warner Bros. panel kicking off the festivities In Hall H on Saturday, this panel featuring Johns was a nice appetizer for some fans.

Obviously, Geoff Johns is known for his extensive work in DC Comics, serving as the president and CCO of the company, but many fans recognize him as a co-producer alongside Jon Berg for the DC Extended Universe. Johns’ involvement with the upcoming projects have left fans wondering where their beloved characters are headed next.

One of the most mysterious future projects is The Flash. Ezra Miller is set to reprise his role as Barry Allen in a standalone outing for the Scarlet Speedster, but with directors including Seth Grahame-Smith and Rick Famuyiwa departing the project due to creative differences, the film has remained without a director.

However, Academy Award-winner Robert Zemeckis recently emerged as a candidate to take over the new film. Given his work on the iconic Back to the Future trilogy, Zemeckis seems like a good fit for The Flash and if he were to apply his sensibilities to the character, it would be a win for DC.

To add more fuel to the fire of fan speculation, Johns admitted during his Thursday panel that Zemeckis is his personal favorite director. Naturally, this will lead to fans pondering whether or not this name drop was a hint about the future.

What do you guys think? Is Geoff Johns simply expressing his love for the filmography of Robert Zemeckis or do you think he is hinting at a potential announcement coming soon?
