Gal Gadot Made Just as Much As Henry Cavill In Their Superhero Debuts

Gadot Cavill Wonder Woman Man of SteelThe Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Gal Gadot and Henry Cavill were both paid the same amount in their respective debuts as the Princess of Themyscira and the Last Son of Krypton.

Confusion on the Internet spurred after Elle Magazine reported Gadot’s salary for her role in Wonder Woman was $300k while Henry Cavill earned $14 million in his first outing as Superman in Man of Steel. While Elle highlighted the gender pay gap in Hollywood, the magazine did not differentiate between the star’s upfront salary and bonuses and performance escalators.

According to a source with knowledge of both negotiations, Gadot was actually paid the same upfront amount that Cavill had been paid, if not more. A $300k salary is within the range of standard rates for entry-level talent joining a major franchise in Hollywood. Cavill’s reported $14 million which THR’s source called “ridiculous” would be due in large part to the bonuses Cavill received for Man of Steel and potentially other performances as Superman as well.

A new report from Deadline states that Gadot was actually paid $600k but her payment for Wonder Woman will remain a mystery until the actress receives her bonuses for the film. To date, the DCEU’s first female-led installment has managed to gross $573 million worldwide.

Gadot will also likely be renegotiating her contract for the Wonder Woman sequel that DC Entertainment president and chief creative officer Geoff Johns confirmed he was writing with director Patty Jenkins earlier today. While Warner Bros. had in place an option on Gadot’s contract for her to return as the Amazonian Princess, it was previously reported that the actresses representation team was preparing for a big renegotiation of Gadot’s contract which will likely ensure a raise for the actress when she returns for the sequel.

Gadot will be seen reprising her role as Wonder Woman this fall when Zack Snyder’s Justice League hits theaters on November 17, 2017.
