‘Game Of Thrones’: Jessica Henwick Teases Return As Nymeria Sand

Game of Thrones HBO

Game of Thrones season six concluded with Daenerys Targaryen making her way towards Westeros with new allies by her side as she finally makes her move to claim the Iron Throne. Among the new allies were the Sandsnakes, who hold a personal vendetta against House Lannister for their role in Oberyn Martell’s death. However, one member of group, Nymeria Sand, was almost excluded from the seventh season when actress Jessica Henwick could not make it work after being cast in Marvel’s Iron Fist. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Henwick discussed how she was ultimately able to appear on both shows and hinted at what fans can expect from Nymeria in season seven.

Henwick explained how she was able to work out her schedule so she could appear on both Game of Thrones and Iron Fist.

“My schedule clashed. I was filming Iron Fist for six-to-seven months and they wouldn’t give me the time off. [GoT] was so massive for me in terms of my career and building my profile and as an experience in itself, I wanted to return. [A GoT producer explained], ‘It’s really important that you come back otherwise your character will just disappear.’ So I spoke to Marvel and I managed to get a release. I literally was flying back and forth while I was doing Iron Fist in New York to Belfast, even during Christmas break.”

Henwick offered a small hint of what Nymeria will be up to when the series returns:

“When we left Nymeria she was newly aligned with Olenna Tyrell [Diana Rigg] and was going to start a war,” she says. “We pick up right where we left off and get into the nitty gritty very quickly. There is no time wasted this season.”
