This season of Gotham has been all sorts of crazy (good) as we have seen monsters invade Gotham City as well as the rising of several villains, including Edward Nygma as he is now approaching his comic book destiny as The Riddler. The second half of the third season will officially kick off towards the end of this month as the Heroes Rise storyline will take Bruce Wayne closer towards his destiny as the Caped Crusader of the city.
Last week Heroic Hollywood participated in the Gotham press room where we chatted with the actors and producers behind the show to get some teases about what’s coming up in Season 3 when the show returns later this month. We were fortunate enough to talk with executive producer and director Danny Cannon as he teased the second half of Season 3 and more.
Ra’s Al Ghul will be coming later this season and appears to be the setup for the fourth season. When asked about how he factors into the last chunk of episodes, Cannon talked about this being an origin story for Ra’s and even the League of Shadows.
“It’s a great way to end the season to have the arch villain and to have an origin story of what brought him to Gotham City and why. It’s going to propel us to hopefully into Season 4 where his frightening agenda [is]made clear. It was just something that we wanted to be a surprise, but it was one of those casting [news]thing, so it’s gone! It’s learning what his connection to the Court of Owls was and what stage the League of Shadows [not League of Assassins in this version] is at, at this point.”
More highlights from the full roundtable interview:
-The process of getting Edward Nygma his iconic Riddler costume.
-On how the show deals with bringing in new villains as well as how they deal with the return of old ones.
-Cannon gives a few teases about the two-hour finale and why that brings Ra’s Al Ghul to the city.
-How the show will potentially set up its Harley Quinn or Harley Quinn-esque character and how Barbara Kean might play into that.
“GOTHAM (Mondays, 8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) The origin story continues on Season Three of GOTHAM, and the stakes are higher than ever, as Super-Villains more ambitious and depraved are introduced, and a realignment of alliances shakes up the fight for power in Gotham City.
Season Three will peel back the curtain on the infamous criminal organization known as the Court of The Owls. With the Indian Hill escapees on the loose, JIM GORDON (Ben McKenzie) must take matters into his own hands as a bounty hunter in Gotham. He makes it his mission to find HUGO STRANGE (guest star BD Wong), the mastermind behind the horrifying Indian Hill experiments, and FISH MOONEY (guest star Jada Pinkett Smith), one of Strange’s subjects. Meanwhile, GCPD Detective HARVEY BULLOCK (Donal Logue) and Captain NATHANIEL BARNES (Michael Chiklis) remain at the forefront of the fight against crime in the monster-ridden city. Also, BRUCE WAYNE (David Mazouz), with the help of his trusted butler and mentor, ALFRED PENNYWORTH (Sean Pertwee), and former Wayne Enterprises employee, LUCIUS FOX (Chris Chalk), discovers there are still more secrets to uncover regarding his parents’ murders.
As the city sinks deeper into chaos, GOTHAM will continue to follow the evolving stories of the city’s most malevolent villains: THE PENGUIN (Robin Lord Taylor); EDWARD NYGMA/the future RIDDLER (Cory Michael Smith); SELINA KYLE/the future CATWOMAN (Camren Bicondova); BARBARA KEAN (Erin Richards), TABITHA GALAVAN/TIGRESS (Jessica Lucas) and BUTCH GILZEAN (Drew Powell). The series also will catch up with the future POISON IVY (Maggie Geha), who, after an encounter with a monster from Indian Hill, finds herself reborn as a young woman who’s harnessed the full power of her charms; and will dive into the origin stories of JERVIS TETCH/MAD HATTER (Benedict Samuel), a talented hypnotist teetering on the edge of madness; and the TWEED BROTHERS.”
Gotham: Heroes Rise will be back with all-new episodes on Monday, April 24 at 8/7c on FOX. Make sure to check back at Heroic Hollywood after every single episode of Season 3 for our weekly reviews.
10 Characters Who Should Appear In The ‘Nightwing’ Movie
So Michael Cera’s appearance as Dick Grayson in The Lego Batman Movie wasn’t enough for all you Nightwing fans, huh? Well, WB is listening and has decided to give Heroic Hollywood’s Number 1 sidekick his own movie. Now, Chris McKay, director of Lego Batman, has been named the director of a Nightwing movie no one saw coming. Nightwing’s place in the DCEU is up in the air. How long ago did he quit being Robin? Are he and Batman speaking right now? Why wasn’t he mentioned in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice?
While the movie will likely answer all those questions, I expect it will also serve as an introduction to a different corner of the Batman universe, similar to the upcoming Gotham City Sirens. Batman might be in it for a scene or two, but the movie will need a full supporting cast to help Nightwing appear as the kickass, sociable character he is. Bruce Wayne has got the brooding down, but former circus performer Dick Grayson knows how to have fun in a way his mentor doesn’t.
