'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2' director James Gunn discusses deleted scenes, Easter eggs and the ramifications of a key post-credits tease.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2-Family
Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy opened to box office success and critical acclaim, but even as the film continues to play in theaters, fans are curious to know what additional material might be included in the film’s home video release. In an interview with Collider, director James Gunn revealed how much footage had been cut from the film and commented on the possibility of seeing some of those scenes in the future.

Gunn revealed the run time of the film’s first cut and told fans to expect only a few minutes of deleted scenes in the home release.

“Our first cut was probably two hours and thirty-some minutes and our final cut is two hours and seventeen or something. So, I think what we cut mostly was just fat. I think we only cut one short scene maybe two short scenes in the movie. Other than that it was really just cutting fat and sort of, you know, manipulating that type of stuff.”

While discussing Easter eggs, Gunn detailed one deleted scene that might be included in the bonus material for the home video released.

“One of our scenes we cut was with Grandpa Quill on earth and we had a lot of Easter eggs in that scene. As many as we had in The Collector’s museum, probably more, and I’ll post pictures from that on social networking and stuff at some point.”

Gunn commented on how the character teased in one of the post-credits scenes will impact the Marvel Cosmic Universe.

“I will say that the tease will have ramifications on the Marvel cosmic universe. It’s going to be after Infinity War, so people should know that. […] That particular tag will have ramifications, whether it’s in Vol. 3 or elsewhere.”
