James Gunn has revealed that one of the five Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 post-credits scenes takes place around the same time as Marvel Studios’ upcoming Avengers: Infinity War, which is set approximately four years after the events of Guardians Vol. 2.

The scene in question is the one that features a pre-teen Groot (voiced by Vin Diesel) playing video games in his quarters while Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) berates him for not cleaning his room, much like a parent would do.

Cinema Blend has spoken to director James Gunn who has confirmed that the end credits scene does indeed take place roughly around the same time that the Guardians meet up with the Avengers and that this adolescent version of Groot is the one we will see in Infinity War. Here is what the director said:

“He’s exactly the same. That’s exactly the Groot we designed for Infinity War. Well, basically those are at the same time.”

Directed by James Gunn, the film stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Kurt Russell, Sean Gunn, Elizabeth Debicki, Michael Rosenbaum and Sylvester Stallone.

Set to the backdrop of ‘Awesome Mixtape #2,’ Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team’s adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill’s true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes’ aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is available on Digital HD today and arrives on Blu-Ray, DVD and 4K Ultra HD on August 22, 2017.
