Phil Lord & Chris Miller Fired After Clashing With Lucasfilm President

Han Solo Star Wars Phil Lord Chris Miller LucasfilmVariety has revealed that directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller were fired off of the Untitled Han Solo Star Wars Story for repeatedly clashing with President of Lucasfilm Kathleen Kennedy.

Earlier tonight, it was reported Lord and Miller had exited the Han Solo spinoff over creative differences, however, the duo’s departure from the project was actually due to friction between them and the Lucasfilm President which a source close to the production told the trade “it was a culture clash from day one,” before adding that Kennedy  “didn’t even like the way they folded their socks.”

The pair best known for directing The Lego Movie and 21 Jump Street were reportedly shocked to discover they were not allowed the freedom to manage the set of the production that they experienced on previous projects and refused to accept Kennedy’s strict control on the project.

The trade also revealed that Kennedy did not approve of their shooting style as well as their process of interacting with the cast and crew, however, the source said the duo was not “given the leeway to do what they had to do,” in order to achieve their vision.

The source went on to reveal that it wasn’t just Kennedy the directors had issues with but the duo also clashed with franchise veteran, Lawrence Kasdan who wrote installments such as Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, Star Wars: Return of the Jedi and also co-wrote Star Wars: The Force Awakens and the script for the Han Solo spinoff. The source explained that the set itself became “polarizing” and explained that thanks to their long history and experience with the franchise, Kasdan and Kennedy have a very clear vision for the film, telling the trade:

“Kathy, her team and Larry Kasdan have been doing it their way for a very long time. They know how the cheese is made and that’s how they want it made.”

It still remains unclear who will take over for Lord and Miller as director on the project but Kennedy has assured a replacement director will be announced soon. Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for the latest news on the future of the Star Wars franchise as we learn it.

The Untitled Han Solo Star Wars Story has been written by Lawrence Kasdan and son Jon Kasdan. The film stars Alden Ehrenreich as the young Han Solo along with Joonas Suotomo as Chewbacca and Donald Glover as the young Lando Calrissian. The cast also includes Thandie Newton, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Michael K. Williams, and Ian Kenny.

The Untitled Han Solo Star Wars Story is currently slated for release on May 25, 2018.

10 Best Moments From The ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ Teaser Trailer

The Last Jedi 1The wait is finally over, folks. The first trailer for the eagerly-anticipated Star Wars: The Last Jedi premiered at Star Wars Celebration Orlando to rapturous applause. Now that the world has been given an official first look at what happens following the events of The Force Awakens, let’s rundown through 10 of the best moments from this incredible trailer.

These moments will range from what new story details have been revealed to just plain exciting moments of cinematic wonder that only a film series like Star Wars can conjure up. So without further ado, let’s rundown 10 highlights from this new trailer.

1. Ahch-To at sunset

The Last Jedi

In one of the first shots from the trailer, we get this gorgeous image of the island we last left Rey (Daisy Ridley) and Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) on. We already saw how director J.J. Abrams visually caught the imagery of this beautiful island, but seeing Rian Johnson’s unique aesthetic capture the environment already sets an exciting precedent for what is certainly going to be one of the most visually dynamic Star Wars films yet.

2. Kylo remnants

The Last Jedi

In this shot, we see the crushed up remains of the mask of Kylo Ren (Adam Driver). When we last left him, we see him vulnerable after his embarrassing loss against Rey in their incredible lightsaber duel. Now, Supreme Leader Snoke (Andy Serkis) is ready to help Kylo Ren complete his training. Does this crushed mask symbolize a new transformation for the character?

3. A mysterious book

The Last Jedi

We then get a close up of a gloved hand gently surveying this mysterious book. From the looks of it, it looks related to the Jedi. But could this be the Journal of the Whills? Is this book used by Luke as a reference in Rey’s training? Perhaps we will have to wait and see.

4. Lightsaber training

The Last Jedi

“It’s so much bigger.”

This incredible helicopter shot around the island is truly beautiful. We see Rey swinging around her lightsaber as she continues her training with Luke. She’s only getting a hint at the true scope of what the Force really is all about, and she still has no idea at how big her journey will truly get.

5. AT-ATs on the horizon?

The Last Jedi

We see three ships piloting down some interesting terrain on an unknown planet. The design of these ships is intriguing, but if you look closely at this shot you can see what looks like AT-AT walkers on the horizon. Much like how The Force Awakens paid tribute to A New Hope, perhaps The Last Jedi finds ways to pay tribute to The Empire Strikes Back.

6. Still asleep…

The Last Jedi

Finn (John Boyega) was left in a coma after suffering a major blow in a lightsaber duel against Kylo Ren. This is the only shot we get of him in the trailer, but it looks like he has been transferred to some sort of rehabilitation chamber. Unfortunately, we don’t get to see the former stormtrooper in action, but perhaps they are saving some of his exciting adventures for the next trailer. Hopefully, he won’t be taking a backseat. After all, he is one of our new heroes in this trilogy.

7. Poe & BB-8 on the run

The Last Jedi 10

The dashing Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) and his trusty droid BB-8 are shown running through a Resistance base as a major attack has been unleashed. As they run towards their X-Wing, a major explosion occurs. We don’t get to see if their X-Wing survives the explosion, but this one helluva pilot is certainly going to shine in The Last Jedi.

8. Falcon takes flight

The Last Jedi

There is no such thing as too many Millennium Falcon shots. We see the iconic ship soaring through the cloudy skies as TIE Fighters are shooting towards it. Rey took the Falcon along with Chewbacca and R2-D2 to Ach-To to find Luke. Maybe the four of them eventually escape the island at some point in the film.

9. Ben
The Last Jedi

Here, we have an intimidating shot of Kylo Ren with his lightsaber ignited towards the camera. Is he ready to duel against Rey again? Or maybe he’s about to fight against his uncle Luke Skywalker… Who knows, but he’s certainly not going to embarrass himself this time around.

10. “It’s time for the Jedi to end.”

The Last Jedi

In what will undoubtedly be the most quoted line in this trailer, Luke laments to Rey that the Jedi must come to an end. Daisy Ridley expressed during the panel that sometimes, meeting your own heroes may lead you to different directions. This quote is certainly an indication that something’s up with Luke. But what? Looks like we’ll have to wait until December 15 to get all the answers (and perhaps even more questions).

Star Wars: The Last Jedi will arrive in our galaxy on December 15.
