Brie Larson Has A Surprising Response To Captain Marvel Future After ‘The Marvels’

Is her time up?

Brie Larson The Marvels

Is Captain Marvel’s time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe coming to a close? Brie Larson spoke about her future as Carol Danvers following The Marvels‘ struggles at the box office.

The Marvels was a Marvel Cinematic Universe movie almost doomed to fail from the start. Releasing at the height of both superhero fatigue discourse and the SAG-AFTRA strikes, it’s surprising Brie Larson’s return as Captain Marvel even did as well as it did. When asked at the SAG awards if she saw a future with Carol Danvers following the film’s flop, Larson simply said “I don’t have anything to say about that.”

It’s not a shock Brie Larson didn’t have much to say about her MCU future following The Marvels. Not only is Marvel notoriously tight-lipped over its future plans, but a recent restructuring of Disney as a company could see any previous plans for Captain Marvel tossed to the wayside. Here’s to hoping, for the sake of everyone Carol Danvers has inspired, Larson is able to get at least one more solo outing as Captain Marvel!

The talent behind The Marvels

The Marvels is set to be a groundbreaking film in many ways. Not only does it feature three powerful female superheroes, but it also has a female director, Nia DaCosta, who previously directed the horror flick Candyman. The movie features a cast that includes Zawe Ashton, Park Seo-joon, Saagar Shaikh, Zenobia Shroff, and Mohan Kapur.

“She has a really calm vibe, too,” Iman Vellani said about DaCosta. “These movies are not easy to make at all. There’s like a million, bajillion little moving pieces. She and [executive producer] Mary [Livanos] did such a great job to keep morale high. Even if there were days where they wanted to rip people’s heads off, they would never show it and never put their stress on anyone else.”

In addition to directing The Marvels, Nia DaCosta also co-wrote the script alongside Megan McDonnell, Elissa Karasik, and Zeb Wells. During an interview, DaCosta described the movie as being “full comic book madness,” teasing what audiences can expect from the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe project.
