There is no weapon in cinematic history that is more iconic than the lightsaber. Featured in every Star Wars film to date, the melee weapon of both the Jedi and the Sith has been seen in the hands of many iconic characters. One saber in particular is quite special – the coveted blue lightsaber that has been passed down through three generations of Star Wars characters: Anakin Skywalker, Luke Skywalker, (briefly) Finn and now Rey.
Audiences were first introduced to the blue saber when Star Wars: A New Hope opened in theaters in 1977. When Obi-Wan Kenobi hands Luke the saber that once belonged to his father, we were just as transfixed by the elegance of this weapon as Luke was.
Luke would go onto use it in the climactic duel against Darth Vader in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back – only to lose it in Cloud City as Vader slices his hand off. The blue saber would never be seen again until over 30 years later when Rey finds it at Maz Kanata’s castle. With this sequel trilogy currently underway, LucasFilm has now officially branded the weapon as Rey’s lightsaber.
For the most committed Star Wars collectors, there is now an opportunity to own the original hero saber of Luke Skywalker as featured in A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back.
The original Luke Skywalker saber is one of the many items listed available at the Hollywood Auction 89. This auction will take place in Los Angeles, CA from June 26-28. This prop saber is from the collection of producer Gary Kurtz.
There is no doubt that the final price tag on this prop will be staggering. After all, who would pass on the opportunity to own it? Imagine having your friends come over and they see it displayed in all of its glory.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi will arrive in our galaxy on December 15, 2017.

8 ‘Star Wars’ Spin-Off Movies We Really Want To See
May the 4th be with you, everyone! Even on May the 8th! With Star Wars weekend in the rear-view mirror, it’s still a great time to kick back, get out your old glow-in-the-dark lightsaber toys and Darth Vader Halloween masks, and pop in those original trilogy DVDs. Maybe even all 8 currently-released films, if you’re up for the challenge (both mental and otherwise). Speaking of which, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story just came out on Blu-ray, marking the first home release of many Star Wars spin-off movies to come.
Of these, only one future title has been confirmed – Han Solo: A Star Wars Story, to be released in May of 2018. Beyond that, we know Disney had at least two more planned, and probably more down the line. And why not? The Star Wars universe is so ripe for exploration. There are so many characters we were introduced to in the Saga movies that could easily get their own film. And it doesn’t stop there. The legacy of the Jedi and the Sith go back thousands of years, opening up virtually endless possibilities of story material.
Given this abundance of material just waiting to be tapped into, Heroic Hollywood decided to celebrate the Star Wars holiday by compiling a list of the Star Wars stand-alone movies we’d most like to see. While some of the films on this list are more likely to be developed than others, they each share one unifying factor: they’d all be freakin’ awesome!
