Matt Reeves Talks Personal Approach In Directing ‘The Batman’

Matt Reeves The BatmanWhile we will be seeing Ben Affleck reprising the role of Bruce Wayne a.k.a. Batman later this fall in Justice League, he also has his solo-film coming up with The Batman. War for the Planet of the Apes director Matt Reeves is set to helm the movie which currently doesn’t have a set release date.

In a recent interview with Comicbook.com, the director was asked about the new Caped Crusader film and how he is planning on tackling it. While Reeves stress that it’s still very early in the game, the director went on to explain his personal approach with this DC film. Reeves talked heavily about wanting to have a connection with the main character while also describing the parallel he sees between the Dark Knight and Caesar.

“Look, I’m just starting Batman because literally, [War for the Planet of the Apes], as I just said, we finished about a we ago and now we’re publicizing it. So, we haven’t even begun on Batman. For me, what’s always important is to try and find a personal way in. In that way, I do feel like I relate to actors. It’s about understanding emotionally, the way something is. I see this parallel between Caesar and Batman, really, which is this idea of these characters who are grappling with their own struggle and trying to do the right thing in an imperfect world and, so, I do really relate it to that kind of idea.”

Matt Reeves’ The Batman, starring Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Joe Manganiello as Slade Wilson/Deathstroke, J.K. Simmons as Commissioner James Gordon and Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, has yet to be given a release date.

The DCEU has offered him some great moments and while I got a chance to look at Superman’s best moments so far, it is now time to look at the iconic Detective.
