New ‘Valerian’ Poster Debuts Ahead Of Second Trailer

Ahead of the release of the second trailer, Entertainment Weekly has revealed the latest poster for the director Luc Besson’s upcoming Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets. The poster has a distinct “blue ice” aesthetic, one that reflects the color palette of the film. When speaking with EW, the director noted exactly that.

“There’s always a dominant color in my films, The Professional was brown, The Fifth Element was orange, Valerian is blue ice.”

He also noted that he was surprised when he saw the poster because he wasn’t apart of the creation process.

“I didn’t participate in the creation of the poster. I wanted to stay fresh and react as a moviegoer seeing it for the first time. This poster was the most striking to me and the whole team was in agreement.”

You can check out the full poster at EW and the first trailer below.

Luc Besson, who previously directed La Femme Nikita, The Professional, The Fifth Element, and Lucy, has had his eyes on the Valerian franchise since he was 13. Based on the French comic books of the same name, many believe that the series inspired the likes of Star Wars and Avatar. The second trailer for Valerian drops on March 29th. The film stars Dane DeHaan, Cara Delevingne, Rihanna, Clive Owen, John Goodman, and Ethan Hawke. Valerian hits cinemas on July 21st.
