One of the biggest new hits of the ongoing TV season is the Archie Comics live-action series Riverdale as it joined The CW’s big comic book TV line-up by bringing the Archie Universe to life. With only a few episodes remaining of Season 1, everything is starting to come full circle as we are getting closer to finding out who killed Jason Blossom while also following the lives of the people in Riverdale.
Last week Heroic Hollywood participated in the Riverdale press room where we chatted with the actors and producers behind the show to get some teases about what’s coming up in Season 1 and a little bit about Season 2. We had the pleasure to chat with KJ Apa and Luke Perry who play Archie and Fred Andrews respectively on the series.
One of the upcoming episodes will feature the big debut of Molly Ringwald as Mary Andrews, Archie’s mom and Fred’s wife as she returns to Riverdale. When asked about how her return affects both the characters, Perry teased that it will be tough for Fred.
“Well, she is the woman I love, she is the mother of my child, so that’s a big thing for Fred. For us to separate wasn’t my idea so that’s a big thing for Fred, they have a lot to put together.”
Apa discussed the strong relationship he has with Mary and how Archie hopes that his parents will get back together as she comes back to Riverdale.
“Archie loves his mom and he does miss her so when she comes back, Archie kind of wants his dad and mom to get back together. There’s a little bit of hope in there, but we’ll see what happens with that. But yeah he loves his mom and they got a great relationship and unfortunately she is just not there for him.”
More highlights from the full roundtable interview:
-Apa and Perry on the show’s way of dealing with the Ms. Grundy/Archie storyline and the reactions it got.
-The reactions and responses that the two actors have seen for the show over social media.
-Perry and Apa on their working relationship as TV father and son.
-How the season one finale script got a sudden change the day before the table read.
