The Star Wars franchise has come to rule December after the success of Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story at the box office. Rogue One crossed the $600 million mark at the worldwide box only days after breaking $500 million.
Sources close to MakingStarWars.net are indicating that the Han Solo project could be released on December 13th, 2018. This would replicate the success that previous Star Wars projects have had in the month of December.
The movie was originally set to be released on May 25, 2018, it has not yet been confirmed if the movie will be moving to a December release date.
BBC’s own Lizo Mzimba recently chatted with Kathleen Kennedy, President of Lucasfilm and producer of all the Star Wars films, where he asked for some updates on the untitled spin-off film for Han Solo. When asked how far they were into this project, Kennedy gave a simple and clear update as she confirmed when production is set to kick off.
“We are actually very close. We are going to start shooting in February!”
Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s untitled Han Solo spin-off film stars Alden Ehrenreich (Beautiful Creatures) as Han Solo, Donald Glover (Community, Atlanta) as Lando Calrissian and Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones). The screenplay comes from Lawrence and Jon Kasdan.
