Fans cheered the moment Spider-Man appeared on screen in Captain America: Civil War. His inclusion heralded the dawn of a new era for the MCU, and era that included Spider-Man among the Avengers. Next year, Spider-Man will return to the silver screen, but this time with the help of Marvel Studios.
Earlier today several set photos appeared online as the filming commenced, and now a few more have been revealed that display an iconic location which not only has appeared in both the Rami Trilogy and The Amazing Spider-Man films, but have a clever comic book easter egg attached with it as well.
While at first glance, the three photos give almost nothing away. Peter Parker is simply wearing a school sweater for the “Midtown School Of Science & Technology,” which is obviously a homage to the school he attended in the comics as well as the previous Spider-Man films. What many haven’t noticed, is that the subtext “Established 1962” is listed below the crest.
The clever easter egg is paying reference to the fact that Spider-Man’s first appearance took place in Amazing Fantasy #15 in 1962, this making it the official establish date of “Midtown High” which was also introduced in the issue.
Spider-Man: Homecoming will mark the first time Sony and Marvel Studios will co-op a Spidey story together, and in all likelihood, it just may be the best possible depiction fans will get of the character, and from the looks of it, they’re off to a great start.
Spider-Man: Homecoming is set to hit theaters on July 7, 2017.
