According to TheWrap, writer, and director James Gunn confirmed several major cameos from the upcoming sequel during the film’s press conference on Thursday in Los Angeles that will have long-time fans of the Guardians of the Galaxy comics very excited.

Towards the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2, fans will be treated to a reunion between some of the original members of the Guardians of the Galaxy as new ravagers Charlie-27 (Ving Rhames) and Aleta Ogord (Michelle Yeoh) are introduced. The trade has not revealed why the characters appear in the new film but both Charlie-27 and Aleta meet up with Sylvester Stallone’s Starhawk as well as other alien characters Krugar and Mainframe. Together, they all pledge to team back up together.

The original Guardians believed they had formed accidentally while attempting to save the Earth but eventually discovered that Starhawk, with the knowledge of the future to come, orchestrated events to make sure the team came together.

While the original Guardians of the Galaxy made their debut in Marvel Super-Heroes Vol 1 #18, the cameos featured in the film are closest to the members of the team from the ’90s comics.

The team itself is active during the 31st century in the alternate timeline known as Earth-691. Original members included Captain Charlie-27, Yondu Udonta as well as husband and wife Starhawk and Aleta, plus Major Vance Astro, Martinex T’Naga, and Nikki.
