‘Star Trek: Discovery’ EP Talks Bryan Fuller’s Influence On The Show

Star Trek: Discovery FullerWhile Bryan Fuller did help co-create the new Star Trek series, Star Trek: Discovery, it was announced last year that Fuller had to step down as one of the show-runners. Given Fuller being so busy with getting Starz’s American Gods together last year, it was understandable why the producer had to step away from the new Star Trek show, while still remaining as an executive producer.

So while he isn’t involved with Star Trek: Discovery on a day-to-day basis, Fuller’s vision for the show will still be the same. In a recent Collider interview, Alex Kurtzman, who co-created Discovery with him, made it clear that you will still be able to notice Fuller’s footprints. Kurtzman had only good things to say about his fellow co-creator while also describing their working relationship.

“No absolutely there are footprints left on the show. Someone once described Bryan to me as a unicorn and that’s just the truth. He’s a one of a kind writer. He’s just unbelievably brilliant and I really, really loved working with him and I loved seeing the way that his mind worked. Bryan was very involved in American Gods and I think that the scope and scale of what Trek has become made it so that Bryan elected to say, ‘I don’t wanna short-change either of these two things,’ they’re both sort of beloved to him, so we sat down and we figured out how are we going to take what we can have of you and continue that through not only this season of Trek but hopefully set up things that are coming next season. So much of what’s there in terms of story and certainly in terms of set-up, character, big ideas, the big movement of the season, that’s all stuff that Bryan and I talked about.”

Star Trek: Discovery Season 1 is slated to arrive on CBS All Access this fall.
