Stranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer have opened up on some of the new cast members and teased that we'll see new sides of Eleven in season 2.

Stranger ThingsStranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer have opened up on some of the new additions to the cast and teased that we will see new sides of Eleven in the second season of the hit Netflix series.

For season two, the series has added Sean Astin (The Goonies) and Broadway star Sadie Sink into the mix this year with Astin in the role of Bob Newby, Joyce’s new boyfriend and manager of the local Radio Shack and Sink as well as Max, a newcomer to the group of young friends established in the first season.

While on Remote Controlled, a podcast from Variety, The Duffer Brothers praised the performance of Astin with Ross telling the outlet:

“What he brought to the performance and his ideas completely elevated the character and inspired us as we wrote because we filmed a few episodes with him — we were more behind on the writing this year so we were writing scripts as we were going but the great thing about that for Sean, we were able to evolve this character as we went along.”

The Duffer Brothers also revealed that they were not worried about adding a new kid into the mix of the group audiences have already grown attached to but it is something that the series will play into as Matt teased that “not all of the kids in the group think this is a good idea — to let this girl in,” as he made it clear this is “not a replacement for Eleven.”

As for Eleven, Matt teased that there is a “ton to delve into” when he asked about whether or not the series would explore more of Eleven’s backstory in season two. Ross wouldn’t reveal any details about her storyline in season two but shared that the new season will show new sides of her character. The brothers were also asked about the threat Hawkins is up against in season two but remained tight-lipped on what fans would be able to expect from the monster(s) in season two, only teasing that “they’re cool”.

Stranger Things 2 stars Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Millie Bobby Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Joe Keery, and Noah Schnapp. The series has also added Sean Astin (The Goonies), Paul Reiser (Aliens), Brett Gelman (Jobs), Dacre Montgomery (Power Rangers), Danish actress Linnea Berthelsen, and broadway star Sadie Sink into the mix as well.
