‘Suicide Squad’ Scores $20.5M Thursday Night; Sets New August Record

Warner Bros. is likely very happy this morning as despite a bit of bad buzz surrounding the film, Suicide Squad has scored an August-best when it comes to previews and brought in $20.5M last night at the North American box office. This gives the David Ayer directed film the third best preview number for a comic book film this year right behind Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice which brought in $27.7M  & Captain America: Civil War at $25M. Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy, which was the previous record holder for Thursday previews in August, brought in $11.2M before going on to opening up to $94.3M back in 2014.

Suicide Squad is also off to an impressive start overseas, where the film is outpacing both Guardians Of The Galaxy & Deadpool. The DC film earned $20.8M from 40 markets on Thursday, bringing the film’s two-day foreign total to $29.6M. Currently, the film is  tracking in the $130-140M range domestically but there are some out there that believe it could go even higher when it’s all said and done. We’re going to have to wait and see on that one but be sure to stay tuned for further updates and let us know what you thought about Suicide Squad in the comments section below.
