‘Thor: Ragnarok’ Star Karl Urban Explains Why Skurge Joins Hela

Thor Ragnarok Marvel Studios

Marvel Studios unveiled a brand new trailer for Thor: Ragnarok, the third installment of the titular hero’s solo film series. The trailer offered audiences a look at Karl Urban as Skurge, an Asgardian warrior who guards the bifrost and aligns with Hela. In an interview with IGN, Urban explained why Skurge will betray Thor following Hela’s invasion.

Urban revealed that Skurge will join Hela out of a sense of self-preservation:

“When we find Skurge, he’s operating the Bifrost because Heimdall is missing in action, and then pretty soon after that Hela shows up. Skurge sees the writing on the wall and has to make a decision whether to die or join her, so his instincts of self-preservation take over.”

Urban added that the Skurge’s true allegiance will be the character’s core dilemma through the film.
