‘Transformers: The Last Knight’ Producer Says Bumblebee Spinoff Will Be A ‘More Intimate’ Film

Transformers The Last Knight Bumblebee
Transformers: The Last Knight has arrived in theaters and the latest entry in the live-action film series features the explosive action and extravagant special effects for which the franchise is known. However, producer Lorenzo Di Bonaventura stated that the upcoming Bumblebee spinoff will have a different approach than previous live-action Transformers films during an interview with Screen Rant.

Di Bonaventura discussed how the film will be more character-driven with a relatively smaller scale than previous Transformers films:

“I don’t want to give away too much about it but we’re making a very distinctly different type of Transformers movie. It’s a more intimate movie. It’s a little bit like Iron Giant which I worked on many years ago. It’s a smaller story but it’s still about these larger issues, the same sort of titanic clashes occur. But it’s a female lead, the relationship she and Bumblebee develop is very different than what we’ve seen before. And so I think people are going to love the intimacy of that movie in contrast to some of the big ‘wham bam thank you mam’ you know?”

With the Transformers films often being criticized for their overblown set pieces and lack of character development, this news may be welcomed by fans of the franchise who have become frustrated with the previous five films in the franchise. Until the Bumblebee spinoff hits theaters, fans can see the Transformers: The Last Knight. Here’s the official synopsis:

“The Last Knight shatters the core myths of the Transformers franchise, and redefines what it means to be a hero. Humans and Transformers are at war, Optimus Prime is gone. The key to saving our future lies buried in the secrets of the past, in the hidden history of Transformers on Earth. Saving our world falls upon the shoulders of an unlikely alliance: Cade Yeager (Mark Wahlberg); Bumblebee; an English Lord (Sir Anthony Hopkins); and an Oxford Professor (Laura Haddock).

There comes a moment in everyone’s life when we are called upon to make a difference. In Transformers: The Last Knight, the hunted will become heroes. Heroes will become villains. Only one world will survive: theirs, or ours.”

Directed by Michael Bay, the film stars Mark Wahlberg, Isabela Moner, Stanley Tucci, Laura Haddock, Anthony Hopkins, Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson, Santiago Cabrera, Jerrod Carmichael, Liam Garrigan, Peter Cullen and John Goodman.
