In the first season of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Leonard Snart a.k.a. Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller), who started out as one of The Flash’s famous Rogues, sacrificed himself for his team in one of the last episodes. However, shortly after that episode aired, it was announced that Miller had signed a new contract to appear as a regular on both The Flash and as well as on Legends of Tomorrow.
Then at San Diego Comic-Con 2016, it was announced that Cold would become a member of the villainous Legion of Doom which currently consists of Damien Darhk (Neal McDonough), Malcolm Merlyn (John Barrowman) and their leader, Eobard Thawne a.k.a. the Reverse-Flash (Matt Letscher). We saw Cold appear in the mid-season finale of season two last month where he appeared as a hallucination of Mick Rory a.k.a. Heatwave (Dominic Purcell).
However, when the show returns from its hiatus, fans should get ready for his return, but with a twist or two. Entertainment Weekly spoke with Miller at the Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour where the actor shared some details on how the character will re-appear and how he becomes part of the Legion of Doom. Based on his answer, it definitely seems like someone will be going back in time and pick up a version of Captain Cold before he joined the Legends, which Miller seems to be quite excited about.
“My sense is that if Snart comes back into the storyline via his present day incarnation, then he’s a straight up villain. He hasn’t gone on that first season Legends of Tomorrow journey yet, so when we meet him again — quote unquote alive in 2017 — I imagine that he’s going to be much like when we first met him the first season on The Flash, which I’m looking forward to, because it means I get to arc to a completely different place.”
However, how will someone like Captain Cold get along with villains such as the Dark Archer, Reverse-Flash and Darhk? When asked about the dynamic with those characters, Miller admitted that there might be some tension in the group as this is a character that is his own boss.
“What I can tell you is that Snart is not used to taking orders. He’s not a team player. That was certainly his story the first season on Legends, so I expect fireworks. I look forward to it.”
While he didn’t say when the character is making his full return, the tenth episode of the second season is titled “The Legion of Doom”, so perhaps that’s when we will see him? Only time will tell – catch the trailer for the mid-season premiere titled “Raiders of the Lost Art” as well as the description below.
“Raiders of the Lost Art” — (9:00-10:00 p.m. ET) (TV-PG, V) (HDTV)
LOST MEMORIES — When Damien Darhk (guest star Neal McDonough) and Malcolm Merlyn (guest star John Barrowman) try to capture Rip Hunter (Arthur Darvill) in 1967, they create an Aberration big enough to draw the attention of the Legends. However, when the team arrives they discover that Rip has no memories of his past due to “time drift” and is just a graduate film student. After trying to convince Rip of who he was, they discover that he possesses an incredibly powerful artifact known as the Spear of Destiny, which the Legion of Doom is after. Ray (Bradon Routh) and Nate (Nick Zano) realize that the Aberration has also affected them personally making it difficult to help the team. Meanwhile, Rory (Dominic Purcell) asks Stein (Victor Garber) for help and makes him promise to keep it a secret from the team. Caity Lotz, Franz Drameh and Maisie Richardson-Sellers also star. Dermott Downs directed the episode written by Keto Shimizu & Chris Fedak (#209). Original airdate 1/24/2017.
Legends of Tomorrow Season 2 will be moving to a new timeslot as of Tuesday, January 24 at 9/8c on The CW. Make sure to check back at Heroic Hollywood after every single episode of Season 2 for our weekly reviews.
