Amazon’s upcoming television series, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, has just added another major piece to it’s puzzle. Reports have surfaced that the series has just cast it’s female lead, with actress Abbie Cornish landing the role.

Cornish has made a name for herself with roles in films like Sucker Punch, RoboCop, and Limitless, and will be starring alongside John Krasinksi, who will be portraying the series titular star.

After Paramount tried resurrecting the franchise through a 2014 film starring Chris Pine that didn’t quite meet expectations, neither financially or critically, they are trying their hand at a serialization for TV. The series is being co-produced through numerous companies like Skydance TV and Paramount TV, with a host of executive producers including Michael Bay, Brad Fuller, Andrew Form, David Ellison, Marcy Ross, Dana Goldberg, Carlton Cuse and Graham Roland.

Cuse (most widely known for co-showrunning Lost) and Roland are at the helm of this project, with the latter taking on chief writing duties for the show.

This version of Jack Ryan is set to be an origin story of sorts, setting Krasinski’s character up as a young CIA operative/analyst being in the field for the first time. Of course, he will find some kind of shady terrorist plot and proceed to be the badass action hero he is destined to become. Cornish will tackle the character Cathy Mueller, a medical professional with a specialization in infectious diseases (that sounds…interesting). The character is described as eager and smart and rising up the ranks, and she will (of course) be a love interest for Jack Ryan as well.

Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan follows an up-and-coming CIA analyst thrust into a dangerous field assignment for the first time. The series follows Ryan as he uncovers a pattern in terrorist communication that launches him into the center of a dangerous gambit with a new breed of terrorism that threatens destruction on a global scale.
