The cast of New Line and DC’s Shazam! continues to grow, with Adam Brody being the latest name to join the superhero film, Heroic Hollywood has learned.

Character details remain under wraps. Brody joins the cast that includes Zachary Levi, Asher Angel, Grace Fulton, Jack Dylan Grazer, Cooper Andrews, Marta Milans, Faithe Herman, Ian Chen, Jovan Armand and Mark Strong. The film follows a teenager named Billy Batson (Angel) who has the ability to transform into an adult superhero with the power of six mythological gods after saying the word “Shazam,” as he goes up against the villainous Doctor Sivana (Strong).

David F. Sandberg (Annabelle: Creation) is directing from a script by Henry Gayden and Darren Lemke. Shazam! is being produced by New Line Cinema in conjunction with Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment.

Production is currently underway at Pinewood Studios Toronto with Peter Safran producing along with Dwayne Johnson, Christopher Godsick, Jeffrey Chernov, Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia serving as executive producers.

Brody is best known for his role on The O.C., FOX’s teen drama that ran for four seasons from 2003-2007. In addition, Brody was set to play The Flash in George Miller’s Justice League: Mortal film that was scrapped in 2007. He also appeared in an episode of DC’s long-running Superman prequel series Smallville.

Here’s the official synopsis for DC’s Shazam!:

“We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Strong).”

Shazam! is slated to hit theaters April 5, 2019. Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for the latest news on Shazam! and the future of DC Films as we learn it.
