Adam McKay Would Be Open To A Standalone ‘Wasp’ Film

Fans have definitely been asking for more female additions to the big screen of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We will be seeing Captain Marvel hitting theaters in 2019, but before that we will have Hope Van Dyne will suiting up Ant-Man & The Wasp when the sequel hits theaters in 2018. Marvel recently announced a solo ongoing comic series for the character, could we also potentially see the character get her own film down the line?

Chatting with IGN, writer & director Adam McKay told the site that he’s still not entirely positive regarding his involvement when it comes to the sequel as well as commenting on his possible interest in being involved with a potential standalone Wasp film.

Possibly. I think it all depends on this sequel and how the character plays. Certainly there’s a lot of female superheroes in the Marvel universe so I’m sure you’re going to see them start to spread out. They sort of started with their kind of bedrock characters from the 60’s and the 70’s and I think you saw more of an explosion of female characters happening in the 80’s and then the 90’s. X-Men obviously has great female characters, but that’d be interesting, a Wasp movie. I don’t know, that’d be very interesting. I always think of the two of them as kind of together – they always were in the comics – but why not. Sure.

When asked if he would be interested in directing a film for the studio, McKay stated that he would “direct one down the line.” While it is a bit unlikely at this point that the studio is considering giving the character her own film, you never know what the future could hold. Would you be interested in seeing a solo Wasp film? Would you like McKay to be involved? Let us know in the comments section below.
