‘Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ Stars On FitzSimmons Future & Season 5

Iain de Caestecker and Elizabeth Henstridge, who play Fitz and Simmons respectively, teases what's coming up on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. for their characters.

Only two episodes remain of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 4 as our characters are now back in the real world after escaping the Framework. However, after having been in the Framework for so long, some of our characters may be a bit different now.

Iain De Caestecker and Elizabeth Henstridge, who play Leo Fitz and Jemma Simmons respectively, recently chatted with Entertainment Weekly as they teased what is coming up in these last two episodes. When asked about what the two characters will face in the season finale next week, the two actors said that it’s actually each other that Fitz and Simmons will be facing.

“De Caestecker: Each other, literally and metaphorically.
Henstridge: Right, and they’ve got to find a way to work together. They have so much stuff going on that they have to be able to communicate to try to fix this issue. That’s what they’re struggling with, particularly for Fitz; he needs a good solid month in therapy, but he doesn’t have it. He’s going to come out and all of a sudden have to figure out some incredible way to of how to save the world again. He’s just been through a traumatic event. So, it’s just like one minute at a time at this point.”

While ABC has yet to announce a fifth season of the show, reports have indicated that the network will indeed bring it back for another year. When asked if the season finale will give viewers closure, should it be the final episode of the series, or if it sets up something that would serve as the main plot for Season 5, the two actors expressed that it leads to more and what things they would want to do before the show is over.

“De Caestecker: You can always see more. Even when the show ultimately does end, there’s always still stories to be told, so.
Henstridge: Yeah, we haven’t had our wedding scene, we’ve not had a birth

Henstridge: Oh, yeah. You know, there’s just a lot that can happen. Maybe that’s what season 5 is, just like the domestic bliss.
De Caestecker: I’d love to see a kid in the show. That’d be great, wouldn’t it?
Henstridge: Yeah.
De Caestecker: Like you doing all your lab stuff and whipping up kids.”
