‘Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.’: Ming-Na Wen Says Playing LMD May ‘Was Difficult’

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. May

Ming-Na Wen has played the fierce Agent Melinda May on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. for four seasons know. And playing the LMD version of her character proved to be a challenge for the actress.

Speaking at a panel at the Heroes and Villains FanFest in Nashville, Ming-Na Wen discussed the difficulty in portraying this different version of May. At the same time, Wen thought it was “fun” to portray LMD May.

“LMD May was difficult because I had to find a way to play her coldness and her lack of emotions. And yet, what was fun was that, as it turns out, once she discovers that she wasn’t LMD, she almost became childlike, and became much more vulnerable, in a way, than Agent May ever was. I think that was a fun twist to play.”

While in the Framework, the actress also played an agent of Hydra as well, and while she loved the storyline, she admits that it was confusing.

“I liked the Framework too in season four. Actually, I loved the Framework. We got to play such other characters. It was very confusing, though.”

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. won’t return until January of 2018, but you can rewatch all four seasons, which are currently on Netflix.

In the aftermath of their journey to another planet, Director Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) and the rest of the team were driven more than ever to put an end to the Hydra organization. Little did they know that they were up against the deadliest threat they’ve ever faced – an extremely powerful Inhuman, Hive, who was transported back from Maveth in the body of their worst enemy, Grant Ward. The team was able to thwart and kill Hive and take down Hydra, but they are all still mourning the death of fellow agent and Inhuman, Lincoln Campbell.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will return in a new timeslot on Tuesdays at 10/9c on ABC.
