One of the X-Men: Apocalypse‘s best stars was Alexandra Shipp, who portrayed the Mutant hero Storm. Originally a member of Apocalypse’s Four Horsemen, Storm switched sides towards the end of the film, helping the heroes to take down Oscar Isaac’s big bad. The character has been one of the biggest in the X-Men franchise, with Oscar-winning actress Halle Berry portraying her in the franchise’s first three films, and Days of Future Past. While little is known about Storm’s background so far, Shipp was able to nail that iconic accent, unlike her predecessor.
With production on the untitled X-Men sequel set to begin in June, many were wondering if Shipp would return to the role. In a new interview with Screen Rant, the actress heavily teased her return to the blockbuster franchise. Shipp did mention how she has not received an official offer yet, but as her contract states the option to return, it seems extremely likely that she will inhabit this role once more.
I’m not too sure. We haven’t gotten any info on that. When you sign on for a franchise, you definitely sign on for that. But it’s all whatever Fox wants, Fox gets!
When asked what she would like to see from her character in the upcoming sequel, Shipp revealed:
I’d really love to see Storm coming into her matriarch form. In the last X-Men, she was very young and she had a different viewpoint. I’d love to see her take on more of a substantial role and really see her come into her own. I want to show how Halle got there. And to do that, I think we just need to show that evolution. And I’m all about a good character arc.
Shipp is certainly spot on in this regard. The character has a grand history as an integral part to the X-Men team, as she has stepped into the leading position on more than one occasion. Would you like to see Shipp return to the role? With the sequel set to tackle the Dark Phoenix Saga, it would be rather nice to have most of the Apocalypse cast return.
