The first trailer for the upcoming film Alien: Covenant offered fans a glimpse of what appeared to be franchises return to its horror roots following more action-oriented sequels. Now, Variety is reporting that the Fox Innovation Lab and director Ridley Scott have joined forces to make an Alien: Covenant virtual reality experience to offers a fan a truly immersive horror experience.
Though no official release date has been given, Variety reports:
The experience will be available as a paid title on major VR platforms.
The Fox Innovation Lab team describes the VR experience as follows:
A dread-inducing journey into the depths of the Alien universe […] Viewers will discover the true meaning of terror as they navigate through horrifying alien environments and a story where every decision could mean the difference between life and death.
The Alien: Covenant virtual reality experience will be directed by David Karlak with Ridley Scott serving as an executive producer.
The project is a joint production between Ridely Scott’s RSA Films, The Fox Innovation Lab and the technicolor company MPC VR.
Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created in ALIEN with ALIEN: COVENANT, the second chapter in a prequel trilogy that began with PROMETHEUS — and connects directly to Scott’s 1979 seminal work of science fiction. Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the “synthetic” David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.
Directed by Ridley Scott, Alien: Covenant stars Katherine Waterston, Michael Fassbender, Danny McBride, Noomi Rapace, Demian Bichir, Jussie Smollett, Carmen Ejogo, Billy Crudup and Amy Seimetz.
Alien: Covenant will be released in theaters on May 19, 2017.
