The first poster for the long-awaited manga adaptation of Alita: Battle Angel from Robert Rodriguez and James Cameron has surfaced at the Licensing Expo in Las Vegas.
The film set in the 26th century tells the story of Alita (Rosa Salazar), an amnesiac cyborg girl rescued from a junkyard by a scientist (Christoph Waltz) who rebuilds her. Once restored to functionality, together they explore her mysterious past as she battles her way through a post-apocalyptic wasteland using her mysteriously advanced combat skills to hunt down criminals as she tries to recover her memories.
The poster itself, captured Collider’s Steve Weintraub, features a quote from the titular heroine Alita, “I do not stand by in the presence of evil.” You can check it out below.
The natively shot 3D film completed production in February but it won’t hit theaters for nearly another fourteen months to allow enough time to develop the film’s extensive visual effects.
Alita: Battle Angel stars Rosa Salazar, Jennifer Connelly, Michelle Rodriguez, Jackie Earle Haley, Christoph Waltz, Ed Skrein, Mahershala Ali, Keean Johnson, Eiza Gonzalez, Jorge Lendeborg Jr., and Lana Condor. The film is currently slated to theaters July 20, 2018.
