When it came to this year’s Avengers: Infinity War, The Russo Brothers collaborated with directors James Gunn, Ryan Coogler and more when it came to the characters they had been responsible for. While neither Ant-Man nor The Wasp appeared in that film, they are looking to have big roles in the upcoming sequel.
But just how much input did Ant-Man And The Wasp director, Peyton Reed have? Speaking with Reed at the film’s press junket, the director briefly commented on his involvement with the currently untitled fourth Avengers film.
“How do I navigate this question. How do I navigate this question? Yeah. There’s a lot of great cross-talk with the Russos and myself. Even going back to Ant-Man, when I was editing [Ant-Man], I had brought The Russos in to look at footage of Scott Lang. Just to see how Paul was playing Scott Lang to kind of inform what they were doing in Civil War and there’s been a lot of cross-talk since then. As you know, I can’t speak too specifically. But I mean, you look at The Wasp in this movie and she’s such a fully formed character that you want to see more of her and I can’t imagine you’re not going to.”
While it’s been well known how collaborative it is over at Marvel Studios, it’s interesting seeing how much ownership over these characters that the directors have taken. With that in mind, it’s hard to imagine Peyton Reed not returning for a third installment in the Ant-Man franchise. But that’s a topic for another day. For the time being though, let us know your thoughts on the above in the comments section below.
Directed by Peyton Reed, Ant-Man and the Wasp stars Paul Rudd as Scott Lang, Evangeline Lilly as Hope Van Dyne, Michael Douglas as Hank Pym, Michael Peña as Luis, David Dastmalchian as Kurt, Judy Greer as Maggie, Randall Park as Agent Jimmy Woo, Laurence Fishburne as Dr. Bill Foster, Walton Goggins as Sonny Burch, Hannah John-Kamen as the Ghost, and Michelle Pfeiffer as Janet van Dyne.
Ant-Man and the Wasp will be released in theaters on July 6, 2018.
10 Marvel Characters Who Can Replace Iron Man After ‘Avengers 4’
He may not be the most powerful hero, but Iron Man is clearly the heart of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. His first solo film in 2007 kick-started the shared universe and directly led to the Avengers joining forces on the big screen. After starring in three solo movies and playing prominent roles in three other Marvel films, now seems like an appropriate time for Iron Man, or at least for Tony Stark, to slowly bow out of the spotlight.
Ever since The Avengers, Stark has been obsessed with the bigger threat out in the Universe. Well, Thanos finally launched his primary attack in Avengers: Infinity War and Iron Man is going to have to think creatively to save the universe. Rumors have been pointing for years that Robert Downey Jr. is ready to say goodbye to the Marvel Universe, but if that happens, Marvel will have to send Iron Man out in style. Whether he sacrifices himself to resurrect the universe or just stalls Thanos long enough for Doctor Strange to save the day, the potential loss of Tony Stark will leave a giant, Iron Man-sized hole in the MCU that will desperately need filling.
