Anthony Russo Discusses ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ Tone; Comments On ‘Batman v Superman’ Competition

Anthony Russo recently spoke at the Comic-Con Experience in Brazil about a range of topicsand among these was the two-part Avengers: Infinity War. The co-director of the film spoke a bit about the upcoming Avengers sequel and whether or not the film would carry over the tone that the Captain America series features.

The tone that we’ve been working in Winter Soldier and Civil War is very specific to the character of Captain America. We like the fact that Captain America is basically a man only a little more so. He doesn’t have this sort of fantasy elements that some of the other characters have. We came up with a style for the film that’s very like visceral interface; a little hand-held [camera work], a lot of close-work, a lot of close fighting. It all suites Captain America. But yes now we’re evolving into an Avengers movie after Civil War, it does ask for something different. And stylistically, we will be going in a different direction. It’s a little early for me to talk too much about it [because] we sort of have this policy with like one movie at a time. There’s still a lot that needs to be worked out as far as Infinity War goes

Omelete then asked the member of the directing duo if there was any form of competition between them and next year’s Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice being that the film hits theaters merely six weeks prior to the Marvel Studios film. Russo had the following to say on the matter.

Well, as filmmakers, my brother and I, we love the [superhero] genre. The more good comic book movies there are, the better as far as we are concerned. We don’t really look at it as a competition. We think [Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice director] Zack Snyder is great, and we hope the movie is fun, great and cool, and something we all enjoy just like everybody else.

Well said Anthony. Now if only the fans could behave in the same manner, eh? Let us know your thoughts on Russo’s comments in the section below.
