This year’s Academy Awards had a slew of remarkable films nominated for Best Picture. One of the standout films was Denis Villeneuve’s hypnotic sci-fi drama, Arrival. The film is based on the Ted Chiang novella, Story of Your Life with the screenplay written by Eric Heisserer.
Heisserer was nominated for his remarkable screenplay at this year’s Academy Awards, losing to screenwriters Barry Jenkins and Tarell Alvin McCraney for Moonlight – the eventual Best Picture winner.
Although much of the deserved praise for Arrival has been credited to Villeneuve, Heisserer’s screenplay is a marvel in and of itself. The way the structure of the story is written is something that speaks to both the intellectual and emotional cores of the audience.
For those longing to see what new projects Heisserer has coming up, it looks like he will once again be returning to the works of Chiang. During a panel at San Diego Comic-Con, Heisserer announced that he is trying to adapt the story as a series with AMC.
The Chiang story in question would be Liking What You See: A Documentary. Heisserer commented that AMC has not granted the project a series order, so it is unknown whether or not the series will be brought to the screen.
Would you like to see Heisserer have this adaptation be his next project? Sound off in the comments below and be sure to continue following Heroic Hollywood for news and announcements from Comic-Con.
