‘Arrow’ & ‘Legends’ EP Teases This Year’s 4-Show DC TV Crossover

DC TV CrossoverSince The CW’s line-up of DC TV shows have expanded in the last five years, with Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl and Legends of Tomorrow, fans are now getting annual crossovers every fall. Last year we saw a 3-way crossover between the four shows when the DC TV heroes united to battle the Dominators in the “Invasion!” crossover story.

CW President Mark Pedowitz revealed last month at the Upfronts that we’re possibly getting the next crossover sometime in November rather than December. With the promise to make the next crossover a proper 4-way, what can DC TV fans expect to see this fall when the heroes of The CW unite once again?

Marc Guggenheim, showrunner of Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow, recently chatted with Entertainment Weekly where he was asked about the plans for the next DC TV crossover. While he wouldn’t give away anything, Guggenheim confirmed that he, Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg are all coming together next week for their first official meeting to discuss their “pretty cool” plan for the next 4-show event.

“You know, believe it or not, we’ve had discussions about it. I think this is the earliest that we’ve ever had a discussion about our crossovers. In fact, next week Greg, Andrew and I are going to sit down and sort of have our first official meeting about it. But…stay tuned, if we end up doing what we’re talking about doing, it’s going to be pretty cool. I’m really, really excited. The crossover is always the most challenging thing we do, but it’s also the most fun.”

Guggenheim also elaborated on the process of developing each crossover, admitting that the producers and writers definitely feel the pressure every year. The showrunner also explained that there is without doubt a challenge in terms of getting something that is bigger than aliens.

“Every year we feel the pressure and I do feel like each crossover has topped the previous one. Topping last year’s [crossover] is a high bar, if for no other reason than what do you do that is bigger than aliens? We got some, I think, very, very exciting ideas. I would say, very early on in the process in actually doing last year’s crossover, Greg said that ‘there’s probably no way to get bigger than aliens’. So the best way to make this year’s crossover especially epic is, if you can’t increase the bombast, increase the emotional stakes and the emotional pay-offs. A very oblique comment on where our heads are at for this season.”

The only thing that is known right now about the next DC TV crossover is that it will not include Black Lightning which is, as of right now, not part of the Arrowverse. Production is set to start on the new seasons of Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl and Legends of Tomorrow this summer in Vancouver, Canada so hopefully at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, we’ll be getting some new exciting details.

Supergirl Season 3 premieres on Monday, October 9 at 8/7c.

The Flash Season 4 and Legends of Tomorrow Season 3 debut on Tuesday, October 10 at 8/7c and 9/8c respectively.

Arrow Season 5 premieres on Thursday, October 11 at 9/8c.

What do you hope to see in this year’s 4-show DC TV crossover? Sound off in the comments below.

You call it a 3-way crossover in this article, but let’s not forget the fact that they aggressively advertised it as a “4 Night Event”. Which was clearly intended to try and boost Supergirl early on with that flimsy connection to the crossover. Glad that they’re doing it properly this year.
