Michael Fassbender Discusses His Role In ‘Assassin’s Creed’; Plus New Image

Assassin's Creed Michael Fassbender

With the release of Justin Kurzel’s live-action adaptation of Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed just around the corner, Empire has debuted a brand new image of Michael Fassbender’s lead character, Aguilar de Nerha, who’s an Assassin living in 15th Century Spain.

Aguilar is the ancestor of Fassbender’s Callum Lynch, but there’s not a whole lot that has been revealed about him. Speaking with he magazine, Fassbender described his character as an “anti-hero of sorts” and added the following:

“It’s not like Star Wars, where you’ve got the light side and the dark side. This is very ambiguous morally. Both of these parties – the Templars and the Assassins – are hypocritical at certain points. There are not clear-cut good and bad characters. I think it’s a little more provocative for an audience to see that. You know, ‘Should I be feeling that? Should I be backing this character?’ That’s always fun.”
