Earlier this year, it was reported that A Wrinkle in Time director Ava DuVernay was being tapped to direct a New Gods film for Warner Bros. and DC Films. During an interview on Late Night with Seth Meyers, DuVernay offered audiences a hint of what they can expect from the project.
When host Seth Meyers mentioned that Ava DuVernay will be directing a DC superhero film, the filmmaker replied:
“Not just a superhero movie. New Gods, Jack Kirby’s New Gods. It is sublime. So good.”
Though the New Gods may not be the most well-known characters among the general public, Ava DuVernay teased what audiences can expect from the film:
“Once they know… it’s one of the most lush… the best one.”
The New Gods, aka “The Fourth World” saga was created by Jack Kirby in 1971 and debuted in a trilogy of related comics that marked the debut of DC villains Darkseid and Highfather. The New Gods told the story of a war between planets that exist outside of the DC multiverse — New Genesis and Apokolips — and featured Darkseid discovering that humanity held the key to the Anti-Life Equation.
New Gods is just one of the many projects currently being developed by Warner Bros. and DC Films, including The Batman, a Flash standalone film, Man of Steel 2, Nightwing, Cyborg, Gotham City Sirens, Bird of Prey, Suicide Squad 2, Green Lantern Corps, Black Adam, Booster Gold, Justice League Dark, and a standalone Joker origin film separate from the shared cinematic universe.

10 Marvel & DC Villains Who Can Take Down Thanos
Thanos may have just taken down some of Marvel’s finest superheroes in Avengers: Infinity War, but he’s not the deadliest villain in comics. Both DC and Marvel are full of characters who are more powerful than the Mad Titan.
Admittedly, whenever Thanos is in possession of all six infinity stones he is the most powerful being in the universe, but anyone can harness that power if they successfully gather all the necessary components. If anything, Thanos is just incredibly patient and willing to wait to achieve his goals, a trait not many supervillains in DC or Marvel have. With the gauntlet, Thanos is essentially an immortal God who can snap his fingers and turn entire worlds to dust, but without it he’s just another villain who wants to rule the universe. He’s clearly a strong and terrifying guy, but if he were to face any of these villains without his Gauntlet, Thanos would be in big trouble.
