‘Avatar’ Sequels Start Shooting With Budget Spanning $1 Billion

Avatar Jake James Cameron PandoraAs reported last week, as of today director James Cameron has officially begun production on the next four films in the Avatar saga in Manhattan Beach, California.

In a report from Deadline,  production of the four Avatar sequels will be shooting back-t0-back in an extensive shoot that will span over the course of six years. It is also worth noting that with a budget that is expected to span over $1 billion, making it the most expensive shoot of all time for the planned tetralogy.

Although the numbers seem formidable, Cameron is no stranger to directing box office juggernauts as the original film became the first film to gross over $2 billion in theaters, surpassing Cameron’s previous film Titanic as the highest-grossing film of all time.

Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Joel David Moore, Matt Gerland, and C. C. H. Pounder are all returning for the sequels along with newcomers Cliff Curtis and Oona Chaplin.

Avatar 2 is currently slated to hit theaters on December 18, 2020, with the additional three follow-ups releasing on December 17, 2021, December 20, 2024, and December 19, 2025.
