There are a lot of characters, plot points, and details in Avengers: Infinity War, no doubt, and the Russo Brothers had a huge task on their hands, balancing so many characters, telling a cohesive plot, and provide character moments for all of the players in the latest Marvel Studios’ film, not the least of which includes Captain America.
As you may recall from the events of Infinity War, Tony Stark has Captain America’s phone number if he needs to get in touch with him. The number in question was listed as (678)-136-7092. It’s not out of the realm of possibility that someone watching the film would attempt to contact said number or any possible number flashed on screen in a film just to see what happens. And apparently, according to the Russo Brothers, this was always the intention for Captain America’s number in particular:
“We actually had intended to create a fake voicemail from Steve Rogers,” Joe Russo said. “For the people that left the theater and called that number, they would get a voicemail from Steve Rogers.”
In addition, according to Anthony Russo, the number shown was in fact an actual phone number that they had planned to use. However, powers higher up, namely the film’s legal department, prevented this from being a possibility:
“We had it all ready to go, but legal took that away from us,” Anthony Russo said.
So moviegoers may almost had a chance to hear Captain America’s voice on their phone, but alas. What would you have wanted to hear from Steve Rogers’ voicemail message? Maybe something akin to the detention message from Spider-Man: Homecoming? Let us know in the comments below.
Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, Avengers: Infinity War stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Bettany, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautisa, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Pom Klementieff, Karen Gillan, Benedict Cumberbatch, Tom Holland, Sebastian Stan, Chadwick Boseman, Paul Rudd, Benedict Wong, Letitia Wright, Danai Gurira, Winston Duke, Tom Hiddleston, Benicio Del Toro, Tom Vaughan-Lawlor and Josh Brolin.
