Despite previous reports of Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) being cut from Avengers: Infinity War, a new quote from co-director Joe Russo may have revealed that she will still be introduced in the movie.
Fans all across the world have been hoping that Captain Marvel would make her debut in Avengers: Infinity War before her titular movie released in 2019. These hopes were dashed a while back when the Russo brothers confirmed that she wouldn’t appear in Infinity War, but instead in the untitled fourth Avengers movie.
However, despite the Russo brothers seemingly destroying any chance of Captain Marvel appearing in the next Avengers movie, it seems as though they’ve gone back on their road. In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Joe Russo mentions Captain Marvel in reference to the amazing female actresses to assemble in the movie:
“Yeah, we have some great female characters in this, Captain Marvel is in it, Black Widow, Scarlet Witch, we have Wakanda is coming in and there’s a whole group of characters that are coming from the Wakandan universe, from the Black Panther universe. Amazingly strong characters, strong-willed characters, and we have the Guardians, and two of the Guardians are daughters of Thanos so there’s a really strong connection to the main villain of the story and I think you’ll see in the film that they’re very pivotal to the storyline and I think the arcs are fantastic so, we’re really really proud of being able to introduce Captain Marvel in this one.”
Despite how this may seem, it is possible for this to line up with the previous comments. Russo could be explaining the amazing cast of females in both the third and fourth installments of the franchise, with Captain Marvel appearing in the fourth movie only. However, this doesn’t exactly align, as he claims to be the one to introduce Captain Marvel despite her movie coming out months before the fourth Avengers movie.
Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, Avengers: Infinity War stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Bettany, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Pom Klementieff, Karen Gillan, Sean Gunn, Benedict Cumberbatch, Tom Holland, Sebastian Stan, Chadwick Boseman, Samuel L. Jackson, Benedict Wong, Tom Hiddleston, Tessa Thompson, Benicio Del Toro, Danai Gurira and Josh Brolin.
Avengers: Infinity War hits theaters on April 27, 2018.
