‘Avengers: Infinity War’ Directors Confirm [Spoilers] Last Words

Avengers Infinity War Marvel DisneyWarning! This article contains spoilers for Avengers: Infinity War!

As moviegoers are still trying to come to terms with the fact that some of their favorite Marvel Comics superheroes became casualties in Thanos’ (Josh Brolin) universal onslaught, Avengers: Infinity War directors Joe and Anthony Russo finally deliver some confirmation in regards to the final words spoken by one of the film’s most beloved characters.

As the final moments of Avengers: Infinity War saw Thanos finally gettings his hands on the all-powerful Infinity Gauntlet, the Mad Titan ultimately wiped out half of the universe’s existence with the snap of his fingers. One of the victims included Groot (Vin Diesel), whose final words to his teammate Rocket Raccoon (Bradley Cooper) have been a hotly debated discussion amongst the film’s fans. While Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn did offer up some insight that the fan-favorite character’s heartbreaking final words translated to “Dad”, many were left to wonder if this was actually in the film’s script.

In an interview with the Huffington Post, the Anthony Russo finally laid the question to rest as the one half of the directing duo confirmed that Groot’s final “I am Groot” definitely translated to “Dad” in the film’s script. This only further exemplifies the tragedy behind Groot’s last moments in the film as the still untitled Avengers 4 will no doubt see Rocket Raccoon reeling from the events that transpired and claimed the lives of three of his fellow comrades.

The 5 Best (And 5 Worst) Characters In ‘Avengers: Infinity War’

Previous1 of 11

Avengers Infinity War MarvelAfter ten years worth of stories,  Avengers: Infinity War is finally here. The 19th entry in the sprawling Marvel saga, things couldn’t be any more different here than they were in the universe’s birthplace: Iron Man. While that movie established a world that superheroes like Captain America and Thor would later join, Iron Man himself was the only superhero in that first movie. Even Colonel Rhodes, originally played by Terrence Howard instead of Don Cheadle, didn’t don his War Machine armor until the next movie, after the Hulk and Abomination had been added to the mix.

While the action and visuals are enjoyable, what truly makes Avengers: Infinity War such an impressive movie are all the characters. Over the last ten years, Kevin Feige and his team over at Marvel Studios have slowly and methodically built out this universe to include a wide roster of heroes and villains. Now, after all the characters have been properly introduced, the world’s mightiest heroes must come together to fight a foe who’s been waiting for them since the end of The Avengers. Unfortunately, not all heroes are created equal and some of these characters came across as disappointing or boring in Infinity War. The movie may have shattered box office records, but that doens’t mean all of the characters come across well at the end of it all.
