This article contains spoilers for Avengers: Infinity War.
Rocket and Groot have a very important role throughout Avengers: Infinity War. They travel with Thor to Nidavellir to gain a Thanos killing weapon called Stormbreaker. While Groot was primarily preoccupied with his gaming system, he was a key factor in creating this weapon. Thor damn near kills himself while holding open the star to create Stormbreaker and as he is near death the weapon is the only thing that can save him. When the weapon maker Eitri points this out, Groot finally puts the game down and literally lends a hand. Groot sacrifices a part of himself to create the handle for Thor’s new weapon and it was definitely worth while.
The film didn’t exactly go the Avengers’ way with Thanos snapping his finger and erasing half of the Marvel universe, including Groot, but there may be hope to bring him back. In Guardians of the Galaxy Groot sacrifices himself to save the Guardians from crashing on Xandar. Rocket saves a piece of Groot and plants it which creates the Groot that we see in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Avengers: Infinity War. Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn has stated that the new Groot isn’t essentially the Groot from Guardians of The Galaxy, but his son. So, could they bring Groot back by using a piece of Storm breaker? Avengers: Infinity War directors Joe and Anthony Russo recently had an interview with the Huffington Post and Joe Russo had this to say:
“I don’t know if every piece of him that detaches … can grow a future version of him, but who’s to say? That’s an interesting question”
The answer is pretty open ended and I don’t expect Groot to be reborn in this way again. What do you guys think of their comments? Sound off below!

The 5 Best (And 5 Worst) Characters In ‘Avengers: Infinity War’
After ten years worth of stories, Avengers: Infinity War is finally here. The 19th entry in the sprawling Marvel saga, things couldn’t be any more different here than they were in the universe’s birthplace: Iron Man. While that movie established a world that superheroes like Captain America and Thor would later join, Iron Man himself was the only superhero in that first movie. Even Colonel Rhodes, originally played by Terrence Howard instead of Don Cheadle, didn’t don his War Machine armor until the next movie, after the Hulk and Abomination had been added to the mix.
While the action and visuals are enjoyable, what truly makes Avengers: Infinity War such an impressive movie are all the characters. Over the last ten years, Kevin Feige and his team over at Marvel Studios have slowly and methodically built out this universe to include a wide roster of heroes and villains. Now, after all the characters have been properly introduced, the world’s mightiest heroes must come together to fight a foe who’s been waiting for them since the end of The Avengers. Unfortunately, not all heroes are created equal and some of these characters came across as disappointing or boring in Infinity War. The movie may have shattered box office records, but that doens’t mean all of the characters come across well at the end of it all.
